Blissed Out: The Raptures of Rock
Published in Paperback by Serpent's Tail (October, 1990)
Average review score:

Utterly entertaining & heady; just like the music he covers.Quite possibly the best intellectual analysis of rock ever written. Best, not because of some high-falutin' connection to past ideology or current trends. Rather, the best because it is a series of articles (mostly from Melody Maker) about important artists (My Bloody Valentine, the Pixies, Morrissey, Prince...) by someone who obviously is in love with the music he's disecting. Forget Geil Marcus (too much in love with his ideas), Reynolds is the real deal

Bring Me the Ocean: Nature As Teacher, Messenger, and Intermediary
Published in Hardcover by VanderWyk & Burnham (May, 1995)
Average review score:

Touches everyone with the power of animal healingI recently met Rebecca at a conference where she gave a lecture that followed along with the idea of the book. When it was over,I purchased the book and have since read many of the vignettes that it contains. Each story is filled with tender details of how nature and animals have helped people come to grips with illness and sadness. The book shows us how the world around us can help us come to terms with various problems and conditions in life. I work in the field of Animal Assisted Therapy and have found this book an inspiration to what I do. Bring Me An Ocean validates what I see everyday with my dog when we visit hospitals. The gentle touch of an animal or the opportunity for a patient to smell a flower or touch a seashell sometimes provides more healing that all the medicine in the world. For anyone who loves nature and wants to nuture the souls of loved ones who may be ill, or not, this book is a must.

Cargo of Memories: Saga of the Majestic Showboat
Published in Paperback by Mountain State Pr (October, 1992)
Average review score:

A true story of showboat lifeThis is a must reading for people who were around in the 20s, 30s 40s and 50s and anywhere near the Ohio river. It's a true to life story of the TJ Reynolds family who brought old time showboat entertainment to thousands of people along the river. I found it to be a fascinating glimpse of life aboard showboats and the trials and tribulations of this Reynolds family. What's interesting is that after reading the book, one can actually experience seeing a play on the last showboat, Reynold's Majestic, even today in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The civilization of Rome
Published in Paperback by ()
Average review score:

A First-Rate HistoryHistory can be merely the dusty past, or it can be a fascinating insight into a different civilization. Dudley writes lucidly and gives a vivid picture of what Roman civilization was really like -- and, more important, why it was as it was, and how it became that way. His ability to make clear the development of a civilization is on a par with Kitto's in "The Greeks".
